Working Holiday (Subclass 417)

 What is Working Holiday Visa ? 

The Working Holiday visa 417 allows young people of specific countries to have an extended holiday supplemented by short- term employment in Australia.
 

The 417 visa allows the successful applicant to enter Australia for up to 12 months and during this time work for a maximum of 6 months per employer. In addition the individual can study for 4 months.
 

To apply you must be a citizen of a country taking part in the scheme or a British overseas citizen aged 18 to 30 years inclusive.
 

Eligibility is based on the applicant holding a passport from the list of countries below and having done so for at least 6 months. You must be outside of Australia to apply, you may not bring any dependants and must demonstrate that you have sufficient funds for the journey (generally A$5,000) and funds / a booking for your onward journey.

Further requirements include health insurance to cover your stay and potentially to meet Australia's health and character requirements.

 

Applications if completed correctly and carrying sufficient evidence are as a rule adjudicated very quickly (days and weeks not months) by the Australian High Commission outposts abroad.
 

The countries that are involved in the arrangement are: Belgium, Canada, Republic of Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Republic of Ireland, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Taiwan and the UK.
